Job Description

The Daily Beast is seeking a full-time reporter for The Looker, our new site exploring beauty, health, wellness, and longevity. Daily responsibilities will include pitching and writing stories (service, news, features) that inform, entertain, and engage from our award-winning newsroom on-site in New York.

Ideal candidates will possess a deep curiosity for all things beauty and wellness. You want to learn about any topic related to how people live, look, and feel. You’re comfortable interviewing experts and subjects while adhering to quick deadlines, know how to read a peer-reviewed study, and approach everything with a skeptical eye. You have an instinct for spotting cultural trends before they go mainstream and for navigating social media to spot stories and identify emerging market shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pitch and write beauty, health, and wellness stories (news, features, interviews) that matter to our audience and write intelligent, engaging copy.
• Produce clean, concise, and accurate copy in a fast-paced environment.
• Identify fresh angles and cultural moments that separate us from other outlets.
• Hit deadlines and stay on top of assignments, including timely news hits, service/evergreen content, and long-lead features.
• Incorporate SEO and analytics data into reporting when necessary, and without sacrificing voice or impact.
• Identify appropriate experts and original sources for stories, and be comfortable making calls and conducting interviews as necessary.
• Uphold journalistic ethics and adhere to The Daily Beast’s rigorous standards.
• Represent the Daily Beast at brand events and build relevant relationships in the industry.
• Request and catalogue product samples as needed.
• Applicants should be comfortable collaborating with our social team and appearing in videos to promote stories as needed.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience reporting for a major publication or outlet. Experience covering wellness, beauty, and/or health is a plus.
• A strong curiosity about topics that impact how people live, feel, and look.
• Excellent writing and reporting skills, with the ability to balance voice and authority. An understanding of the role of visuals and video in health, wellness, and beauty storytelling.
• Familiarity with digital publishing and content management systems.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to proactively identify and troubleshoot challenges.

Pay Range Salary

The pay range for this position is $56,000-$65,000.

The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high ends of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, experience, performance, and other factors.
