Job Description

Graham Media Group in market No. 15 Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne, Fla., is looking for an experienced Anchor/Reporter who is a competitive journalist and is motivated to help lead a team to own the weekday morning news daypart with an earnest, authentic approach to journalism, and a team- and community-first mentality.

In full transparency, if you don’t thrive on going in the field three days a week to own a local hard news beat or on spending the time to develop high-quality sources that break leadable news stories, you’ll likely want to pass on this opportunity. Those who lack quality editing skills or shooting skills on mobile or DSLR cameras may also find the role more challenging; you will have to do this kind of work every week.

All that being said – this is a tremendous opportunity for someone who is ready for the next level of using their balanced and fact-based anchoring and reporting to turn a dynamic daypart into a market-leading news product. And you’ll do it with an energized team at your side that’s driven to grow and win by embracing modern, evolving news formats and transformation that allows WKMG to reach its audiences where they are, no matter the device.

In addition to doing everything you can to help the newsroom team and station succeed, you care deeply about standing up for what’s right. And you’re motivated by a call to serve, delivering relevant, hyper-local reporting that informs our audiences, helps keep them safe, holds others accountable and improves our communities for the better.

POSITION OVERVIEW

At WKMG, our News Anchor/Reporters regularly connect with our communities through accurate and compelling storytelling. This role demands a professional with a dynamic on-air presence, strong news judgment and the versatility to cover impactful news both on the anchor desk and in the field. We’re looking for a leader who can collaborate with station leaders, producers, reporters and other workgroups, and immerse themselves in Central Florida to enhance WKMG’s connection with consumers across multiple platforms.

Job Requirements

  • Deliver accurate, urgent, and compelling reporting in newscasts, modeling a rapid response with the team to breaking news both on-air and across digital platforms.
  • Engage viewers with compelling storytelling across all platforms, prioritizing clarity, engagement, and innovation.
  • Report live in scheduled newscasts, during unscheduled cut-ins, and on digital, streaming, and social media as needed.
  • Act as a “guide” in stories, demonstrating a strong connection to the community through active and engaging reporting.
  • Report, shoot, and/or edit your own stories at least 3 days a week.
  • Produce digital articles, videos, vertical videos, and other visuals/graphics as needed that drive engagement with your stories
  • Consistently attend editorial meetings and contribute multiplatform content and coverage ideas.
  • Enterprise big stories, hold people accountable, and summarize complex information while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Work productively in a team environment and know how to motivate teammates as a coach and colleague.
  • Foster community connections, leveraging those relationships to cover important stories.
  • Serve as a mentor within the newsroom, guiding producers and reporters to improve content and presentation.
  • Participate actively in the community and interact with the audience on multiple platforms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • A proven track record in handling breaking news coverage with a dynamic on-air presence and conversational presentation style.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Tech-savvy journalist who rapidly masters emerging technologies including AI tools.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to enterprise thoughtful and impactful stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, as news and business needs require.
  • Have a valid driver’s license with a safety record acceptable to Graham Media Group.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in conversational Spanish and English.
  • College degree in Journalism or Communications.
