Position: Bilingual health-equity reporter, Public Health Watch Location: San Antonio, Texas Salary range: $75,000-$80,000 with benefits, depending on experience
Public Health Watch, a nonprofit investigative news organization, is seeking an experienced, bilingual reporter to cover health inequities — specifically in the area of mental health — in San Antonio and the surrounding area. This position is funded by a two-year grant whose renewal is possible but not assured. We are seeking someone with at least five years of experience in accountability journalism, preferably at the local and/or state levels. They must be self-motivated, a relentless reporter and a polished writer. They must collaborate well with the Public Health Watch team and our media partners, including Spanish-language broadcast and digital outlets. Data journalism skills are a plus but not a requirement.
Job Requirements
Job duties: Research and write in-depth digital stories and short follow-ups that highlight regulatory failures, inadequate resources and other deficiencies associated with the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions Work, as needed, with both English-language and Spanish-language broadcast outlets to produce radio and TV segments Write stories about solutions when applicable Participate in occasional community meetings to discuss topics of public interest Our aim at Public Health Watch is to produce compelling journalism that triggers positive reform.
