Objective
Maya is an associate social newsgathering reporter at NBC News focusing on monitoring social media platforms for breaking, feature and trending news stories and reporting them out. At NBC News, she has worked on high-profile stories including the Surfside collapse, Hurricane Florence, Uvalde and the Highland Park shooting. As a race and equality newsgathering intern, I conducted research and interviewed key eyewitnesses for stories related to race, policing and equality; and daily fact-checked stories and wrote up news alerts to be distributed within the company. I also pitched and wrote more than 20 stories advancing CNN’s digital coverage including a series of lawsuits against the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, a Native American tribe’s battle against tribal sovereignty and Jackson’s ongoing water crisis.
