Series Editor (contract, remote)

Job Description

Drilled is seeking a series editor for a 6-month contract, beginning in July. The editor would be responsible for 2 packages during that time, each consisting of 3-5 stories.

Both series are cross-border reporting packages, one is focused on frontline communities, and entirely in Latin America, the other on the intersection of Big Oil and Big Tech and spans from Latin America to North America, the UK and Europe.

Responsibilities include:

• Meeting regularly with lead reporter to help shape the text series
• Coordinating with audio team to ensure audio and web packages are complementary
• Meeting with individual reporters to discuss their stories before they sit down to write
• Two rounds of edits - an initial, structural edit and a second, line-level edit - on each story
• Traffic control - routing stories to fact-checking and legal and back to reporter.

Approximately 240 hours over a 6-month period

Compensation: $4000 a month/ $24,000 contract.

Job Requirements

Required skills and experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience editing print journalism
• Experience editing both narrative features and investigative journalism
• Experience with project management
• Self starter who can adapt to fast-changing timelines

Preferred skills and experience

• Spanish language proficiency
• Experience covering or editing on the climate and environment beat
• Experience with editing reported series
