Job Description

Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a Digital Supervising Editor.

About the Position:

The Digital Editor plays a key role in shaping and executing CPR’s digital news strategy, including shaping the digital treatment of daily news and breaking news, SEO, social media, live digital broadcasts, and newsletters. This position leads, coaches, and mentors a team of audience editors and digital producers, guiding daily execution and long-term digital priorities. The Digital Editor is responsible for audience analytics and interactive audience projects, and partners with newsroom leadership to grow and deepen CPR’s news audience.

You are expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting — this is not a remote position. This position will work primarily from our downtown newsroom, M - F with occasional evening or weekend work.

About You:

You’re a newsroom digital innovator and advocate who enjoys analyzing SEO and audience data to inform editorial decisions. You are an effective communicator about audience-first story selection and framing. You bring strong news judgment and a commitment to serving audiences in a multimedia, fast-paced, digital-first environment. You stay steady under pressure while making timely decisions that keep the team focused and supported.

You lead with collaboration, clarity, and a teaching mindset as you supervise and coach reporters at all levels. You are organized, transparent in your communication, and proactive in collaborating with newsroom colleagues.

You have a desire to learn about the intersection of digital news products and radio and on-demand audio products. You’re curious and adaptable, approaching challenges with openness and a commitment to growth. You value inclusivity, seek out diverse perspectives, and believe CPR’s journalism should reflect the full breadth of the communities we serve.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience editing and producing digital news content across web, social media, newsletters, digital push and email alerts, and live digital broadcasts.
  • Strong editorial judgment and a thorough understanding of journalistic ethics.
  • Experience using audience analytics, SEO and best practices for social media to inform newsroom digital strategy, including guiding news teams on digital best practices and training news teams on digital tools.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring reporters or editors in a daily news environment.
  • Experience growing digital audiences and launching or expanding digital products or platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external cross-functional teams to administer, problem-solve and build news websites and other digital tools.
  • Experience publishing in content management systems and working with newsroom production tools (e.g., audio editing software, email platforms, automation tools).
  • Experience with editing or producing video for social media as well as with HTML and data visualization tools are a plus.

Education Equivalency:

  • A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.

Even if you don’t meet every qualification listed, we’re interested in candidates who can bring unique skills, perspectives, and experiences to the role. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role, but your past experience doesn't perfectly align with every qualification in the job posting, we encourage you to apply as you may be the right candidate for this or other roles with us.

Benefits:

Colorado Public Radio is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that reflects our culture of caring. Our employees have access to: 100 percent employer paid individual health, life, and disability coverage; an outstanding paid family medical leave policy plus paid holidays and a very generous sick, vacation, and personal time off plan; voluntary offerings such as dental and vision; a retirement plan with no waiting or vesting periods; flexible schedules; engagement and development opportunities; and a casual atmosphere.
