Job Description

About OPB:

Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) is an independent, nonprofit media organization serving communities across Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Powered by the generous support of members, sponsors, and foundations, OPB connects people through trusted journalism that is freely accessible to everyone. Guided by public service, we deliver in-depth, fact-driven coverage of politics, science and the environment, arts and culture, education and more. OPB shares stories and programs wherever people seek them: on opb.org, OPB Radio and TV, the OPB News app, social media, streaming video, podcasts, KMHD Jazz Without Boundaries, or our daily “First Look” and other email newsletters.

The Opportunity:

Do you love building meaningful relationships and helping people make an impact through their philanthropy?

OPB is hiring a Philanthropy Advisor to manage and grow a portfolio of major donors who are passionate about public media and public service. In this role, you’ll cultivate and steward relationships with individuals capable of giving $10,000+ annually, partnering closely with internal teams to align donor interests with OPB and KMHD’s mission, content, and priorities.

This is a relationship-driven role for an experienced fundraiser who thrives on personalized engagement, in-person donor conversations, and thoughtful stewardship. You’ll play a key role in growing major and planned giving while delivering an exceptional donor experience and helping ensure the long-term sustainability of OPB’s journalism and programming.

This is a hybrid role based in Portland, Oregon with regional travel for donor meetings and events.

What You Will Do: Key Responsibilities:

The Philanthropy Advisor manages a portfolio of donors and top prospects with the capacity to make contributions of $10,000 or more, and is responsible for qualification, cultivation, solicitation and purposeful stewardship of relationships for optimal support of OPB and KMHD. The Advisor will conduct prospect research to identify top prospects for major giving and planned gifts, and will build and deepen relationships through personalized engagement, with an emphasis on in-person meetings to foster trust and connection.

The Advisor will develop tailored strategies for each donor, collaborate with internal teams to align donor interests with organizational priorities, and ensure an exceptional donor experience. Success in this position requires proactive outreach, strategic relationship management, and a commitment to meeting ambitious fundraising goals.

Working Conditions:

This is a hybrid position, with the expectation that the employee will spend at least 2 days each week in an OPB office, with frequent travel for donor meetings and events, and extensive use of a computer and telephone. Evening or weekend work is required to carry out events and meetings. Occasional travel is required mainly within the region (Oregon and Southwest Washington) to participate in and facilitate donor meetings, events and professional development training. Occasional out-of-state travel may occur for conferences. Some activities may require moving up to 40 lbs.

Reports to: Senior Director, Philanthropy
