The Opportunity OPB is seeking a DigitalSocial Video Producer who will help create, edit, curate and inform strategy for OPB’s digital and social media platforms. This is a new position to optimize digital-first video, create unique multiplatform video experiences for OPB’s audience in line with our brand strategy and reach new audiences on existing and emerging social platforms, as well as OPB’s website, newsletters and mobile apps.
Position Details This position will work with the digital, audience, content and video teams at OPB to create vertical and horizontal video utilizing OPB’s existing video content, as well as create new video based on OPB’s reporting. Videos will include quick-turn videos produced in one day, as well as some longer-term projects. This position will work both collaboratively with small and large teams, as well as on solo projects. This position will also strategize based on data and best practices to optimize video content on social and digital platforms such as Instagram and YouTube. This position may also create other multimedia projects such as photo and audio-based storytelling as well as assist in general digital team story producing duties depending on team needs. The person selected for this role will keep OPB's values central to their work.
Responsibilities 45% - Social video production
Conceptualizing, filming and editing social videos (primarily vertical videos) for all OPB platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and OPB.org
Working with OPB reporters and editors to create timely social videos for news content
Working with OPB’s shows and podcasts to create social videos for OPB’s main social accounts as well as additional brand accounts including Think Out Loud, the Evergreen, Oregon Field Guide, Oregon Experience and Oregon Art Beat
Posting social videos to all digital and social platforms in accordance with data-driven best practices
Write engaging social copy
45% - Analysis and guidance of OPB’s social Video Strategy
Gathering and reviewing data across all OPB social platforms to create strategic plans to optimize social video content and audience engagement
Working with the Executive Editor, Digital Programming and cross functional teams to implement new strategies across platforms
Analyzing and guiding best social video practices for OPB’s show and podcast social media accounts such as Think Out Loud, the Evergreen, Oregon Field Guide, Oregon Art Beat and Oregon Experience
Train OPB reporters, editors and producers on social videos
10% - Assisting with other audience and digital duties including:
Producing digital-first stories created by OPB journalists
Assisting with the First Look daily newsletter
Optimizing stories using SEO best practices
Updating OPB’s homepage, informed by editorial judgment and analytics
Edit copy to meet OPB and AP style guidelines
Coordinating breaking news updates with on-air staff
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of professional experience in video production and editing
Experience pitching and creating vertical social video in a fast-paced news environment
High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
Ability to think holistically across platforms and recognize digital video opportunities for content conceived for TV and radio, and vice versa
Familiarity with digital analytics tools (e.g., YouTube Studio), SEO best practices, and social media platforms best practices
Ability to function in a deadline-driven environment
Commitment to high ethical standards in journalism
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and another language, preferably one spoken in communities in the Pacific Northwest (for example, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Russian)
Familiarity with Arc XP content management system
Experience using digital audio recording and editing equipment
A voracious news consumer with knowledge of major stories and issues in the Northwest.
Additional Information
This position reports to the Executive Director of Digital Programming, is union represented, and is benefits eligible.
The hiring range for this exempt role is between $60,000-$73,000 annually, depending on qualifications.
