About Pass the Mic Pass the Mic is a community-centered program from Baltimore Public Media that amplifies authentic voices from across Greater Baltimore through dynamic storytelling, critical conversations and bold journalism. The show is rooted in collaboration and committed to centering underrepresented perspectives and voices that reflect the city’s full humanity.
Position Summary Baltimore Public Media is seeking an organized and creative Producer for Pass the Mic who brings a strong radio journalism background and a deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and compelling storytelling. This is an in-person role based at our Baltimore headquarters. The Producer will support the Senior Producer in shaping the show’s editorial direction and be responsible for working with, and guiding, a rotating list of community hosts drawn from across Baltimore’s spectrum of leaders, creative thinkers and doers. There will also be researching, pitching, scripting, as well as studio and field recording and editing original audio stories and interviews.
This is a unique opportunity to help build a new public media program that explores and amplifies the culture, issues, and voices of Greater Baltimore through thoughtful, community-driven conversations and localized journalism.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Senior Producer and community hosts to develop content and conversations that reflect the diversity and culture of Greater Baltimore
Book community hosts and guests, conduct research, pre-interviews, and co-write scripts
Record and edit audio segments for radio broadcast and podcast platforms (long and short versions)
Assist in field reporting, audio gathering, and general show production
Help maintain editorial calendars and manage production deadlines
Maintain an active social media presence for the program (photo/short video/audio)
Collaborate across BPM departments including digital, marketing, and newsroom
Actively support and apply DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) principles in all aspects of conduct, production, and editorial decision-making
Qualifications
At least 3 years of experience in audio journalism, public radio, or podcast production
Strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and a solid sense of narrative journalism
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
Audio editing proficiency (Adobe Audition)
Demonstrated ability to elevate diverse voices and topics with nuance and sensitivity
Demonstrated patience working with colleagues new to a process
General awareness of local and regional news
Familiarity with Greater Baltimore’s successes, challenges and communities is highly preferred
Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative, in-person team
