Job Description

The innovation team project manager at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute cultivates and manages innovative partnership projects that produce practical tools, resources and programming to address a current need, gap or challenge. This position will grow the quantity and quality of resources that RJI produces for small/medium and community-centered newsrooms and journalists.
Specific duties include:
  • Cultivate partnership projects with individuals, organizations and newsrooms to build much needed resources, programs and tools for community-centered journalism 
  • Project manage multiple projects concurrently to keep projects on track, within budget and produce useful, actionable and timely resources for the journalists we serve.
  • Create actionable content for rjionline.org to provide relevant information for the industry on practical innovation for journalism, current projects and trends in the industry
  • Manage student staff who work with the Innovation Team on partnership projects 
  • Work with the RJI Researchers to forge collaborations incorporating cutting edge research into timely practical innovation projects for RJI 
  • Attend key gatherings of journalism and technology professionals (e.g. conferences, workshops and training) to teach our tools & resources, produce content for RJIonline.org and forge new partnerships for projects
  • Teach one class at the Missouri School of Journalism

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position is a skilled project manager with a combination of journalism experience and knowledge of the needs of community-centered newsrooms and journalists. They will multitask with ease, have focused attention to detail and be experienced at prioritizing tasks decisively. They will be extremely organized, excellent at time management and will be able to meet short and long term deadlines with ease. They will work well with journalists, consultants, faculty and students from all backgrounds and abilities.
