Job DescriptionThe Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE) is a nonpartisan research center, located in Seattle, Washington, and led by investigators and collaborators at Arizona State University.
CRPE studies systemic change in K-12 public education through qualitative and quantitative research, then influences practice and policy through several means—including, notably, editorial products. Our ability to shape ideas and drive action in the field depends on the production of a wide variety of high-quality written products.
The Managing Editor will manage editorial processes, edit publications, and coach staff on a range of writing projects. The ideal candidate is an excellent editor and writer and an effective, highly organized project manager who can build effective systems and is a highly collaborative team member. They think critically and analytically, and adapt when priorities change. They develop content expertise quickly and have a researcher’s mindset, asking questions and proactively filling gaps in knowledge. They are comfortable adhering to the organization’s mission and balancing individual and institutional voices, while being unafraid to challenge thinking in productive ways. They can think creatively about how content could be adapted for multiple uses and audiences, then make it happen.
This individual must care deeply about the mission of CRPE and our commitment to producing actionable research and ideas that help dismantle systemic inequity and build a public education system that prepares every student for a life of citizenship and economic independence.
About CRPEThe Center on Reinventing Public Education believes inequities are hard-wired into our public education system in both obvious and subtle ways. Our core business is studying efforts to rewire the system for ongoing improvement, and excellence for every student—moving from the classroom, to the school, to policy implications. We envision a public education system that truly prepares every student for the challenges of the future. We fulfill this mission through:
CRPE seeks team members who are passionate about systems change and embrace the idea that public education is a goal, not a set of institutions. The following core values guide our work:
CRPE has played a national role in studying the impact of the COVID pandemic on school systems and policy, and we study new methods of schooling that will inform rebuilding efforts post-pandemic.
