Title: Reporter/Producer
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Location: Remote, with occasional travel for reporting, conferences, and events

Salary Range: $100,000 - $127,000 About the Role
The Reporter/Producer is an experienced health care journalist who contributes to Tradeoffs’ growth and impact as a multichannel, audience-centered newsroom. They report and produce exceptional audio and digital journalism that upholds the intellectual rigor, emotional resonance and accessibility that defines Tradeoffs. They have deep knowledge and understanding of health care and health policy issues, and are adept at reporting and storytelling that makes complex topics compelling and understandable. Working collaboratively with editors and the Tradeoffs team, they handle story development, research, reporting, writing, editing and production. They support efforts to amplify stories across digital platforms and increase audience engagement. The Reporter/Producer maintains high standards of accuracy, balance and clarity while demonstrating the curiosity and dedication needed to help America have smarter, more honest health policy conversations.About Tradeoffs

Learn more at https://tradeoffs.org/about/.Responsibilities- Track topics and trends and develop sources (i.e. people, records, databases, etc.) across the health care and health policy community
- Pitch, report and produce one to two 15-25 minute podcast episodes per month
- Write newsletter content and digital stories to complement podcast episodes
- Collaborate with Managing Editor and Executive Editor on story ideas, development, research and reporting
- Manage reporting and production processes, including:
- Booking and interviewing guests
- Partnering with the Executive Editor/Host in preparing for and conducting interviews,
- Writing scripts and editing with Managing Editor and Executive Editor,
- Working with the Sound Designer to produce and polish episode audio mixes,
- Producing accompanying digital and newsletter content
- Collaborate with Tradeoffs’ audience team to maximize the reach, engagement and impact of your reporting, including but not limited to: story titling, digital presentation, episode promotion, events and partnering with outside organizations, and tracking and sharing the impact of your work
- Occasional appearances on Tradeoffs’ podcast or as a guest on other media outlets
- Offer peer feedback on episodes led by other reporter/producers and contribute to editorial planning
- Collaborate with Tradeoffs colleagues on other projects as they arise
Job Requirements:
Required Experience
- At least 7 years experience in journalism
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health care and health policy issues. Experience covering mental health, addiction, violence prevention or health equity is a plus
- Preferred experience in audio journalism, audio production and/or podcasting
- Demonstrated written and/or audio reporting and storytelling that puts complicated topics into context in clear and emotionally compelling ways to make them accessible to audiences
- Track record of producing high-quality content on deadline and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working collaboratively with editors, producers and audience engagement colleagues
- Experience developing and cultivating sources across the spectrums of health policy and health care
- Experience tracking health topics/trends and reading/vetting research and other data for stories
- Experience understanding target audiences and reporting/producing impactful content that serves their needs and engages them across platforms
- Knowledge of AP style
- Adheres to journalism ethical standards
