About this position: The Industry Communications Manager is responsible for crafting and delivering timely, relevant communications to internal stakeholders across the California strawberry industry. With an editorial mindset and newsroom-style approach, this role involves writing, curating, and distributing industry content on a routine cycle; and preparing, editing, and/or distributing special alerts that keep growers, shippers and other stakeholders informed, engaged, and aligned with the Commission’s work and current events.
Leveraging their knowledge of industry communications, this position also plays a pivotal role as the Brand Editor for all content developed across the Commission. This role serves as the final approval of all Commission publications—providing timely feedback and constructive edits to ensure consistency with the Commission’s brand identity.
A self-starter and critical thinker, the Industry Communications Manager is a key member of the communications team. Working closely with the Industry Communications Specialist, they drive our internal communications efforts and work collaboratively across departments to identify timely, high-impact information from research, grower education, market insights, and public policy. With strong instincts and editorial judgment, they determine what developments are most relevant to the industry and strategically shape that content into a cohesive, forward-looking editorial calendar. In addition to planning, they must remain responsive and available to support the rapid development and delivery of critical notices as issues arise—working closely with the issues management team to ensure timely, accurate, and aligned communication. They are responsible for delivering clear, well-prioritized weekly communications that support the Commission’s programs while keeping the industry informed and engaged.
A strong understanding of digital tools is essential. The Industry Communications Manager should be proficient in using content management systems (CMS) to maintain and update websites, ensuring accuracy and relevance of online information. Familiarity with communications platforms such as Mailchimp and Constant Contact is important for managing subscriber lists, designing email campaigns, and tracking engagement metrics. This role requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution in digital communication channels to enhance the reach and effectiveness of the Commission’s communication to the strawberry industry.
The Industry Communications Manager position is located in the Watsonville Office. Up to 20% travel within California’s strawberry growing regions can be expected. The Industry Communications Manager is an exempt full-time, in-person position with a 40-hour per week schedule, which includes benefits. The normal schedule is Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm
. This position requires the ability to perform essential in-person activities, with the appropriate safeguards, including a vaccination(s) in accordance with Title VI, the ADA, EEOC guidance, and FEHA.

Required Qualifications
- Advanced copywriting, editing and content creation skills
- Collaborator who gets along well with others
- Fluent (able to speak and write) in English and Spanish
- Bachelor’s degree in communications field
- Minimum 5-years’ experience in content creation
- Digitally proficient, with expertise in platforms including WordPress, Cision, and SharePoint
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Valid CA Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Demonstrated success as a high performer in industry communications
- 10+ years’ related experience
- Familiarity with agricultural operations
- Science or technical writing background
