Job Description

*Grant Funded Role
  • Reports to IPB News Managing Editor
  • Based in Indianapolis

We’re hiring a Daily News Editor to lead statewide daily news planning, coordination and editing. You’ll edit a team of beat reporters based across Indiana and serving communities through a dozen NPR and PBS partner stations. We’re looking for someone who sees editing as a collaborative process and coaches and supports reporters to help them do their best work. We’re also looking for someone who’s energized by daily news, eager to build relationships with communities across Indiana and excited to work closely with a highly collaborative statewide team.

The statewide team reports on state government, education, health, workforce, energy and environment issues across Indiana, with a focus on connecting the many ways state policy affects people.

This new position sets the daily news budget. The editor works with five reporters to help identify and prioritize short-form stories on their beat, shape ongoing coverage, and edit daily broadcast spots on tight deadlines.

The daily news editor will focus on the production of short-form stories serving the newscasts of our station partners. They are comfortable editing on tight deadlines with accuracy and helping reporters develop short-form story ideas and continuing coverage. They are also comfortable coordinating among partner radio and television stations – helping identify needs and working with station news directors, editors and reporters.

IPB News is a collaboration of NPR and PBS stations in Indiana working closely together to expand and deepen reporting and community engagement for radio, TV and digital platforms and through community events. IPB News is partner-funded and receives grants from the Lilly Endowment.
