The Emmy-winning Currents News is looking for an experienced, ambitious, and creative video journalist who thrives covering a range of stories for a nightly newscast from the Catholic perspective in the New York market. Depending on the assignment, candidates will either be assigned to work with a photographer or they will be a one-man-band, shooting and editing video, and using a Dejero unit to go live. You will work with a team of multi-media journalists. This person will be an expert at enterprising stories and turning compelling content. Based on ability and experience, they will be considered to fill-in on the anchor desk.
Job Requirements
Duties & Responsibilities:
Pitches compelling stories in editorial meetings
Takes an assignment and develops a comprehensive story that adheres to journalism ethics and standards and verifies information and sources
Shoots, writes and edits packages
Works closely with the assignment manager and executive producer for script approval
Researches, gathers, and verifies information that will add context and perspective to otherwise standard stories
Stays up to date on current events
Posts video to digital platforms
Uses social media to promote and share stories and interacts with viewers
Is flexible to travel to story assignments outside of the DMA
Skills and Requirements:
Degree in journalism, broadcast news, or equivalent
2+ years experience working as a general assignment reporter with proven live experience in a top 50 market is preferred
Exceptional news judgment and knowledge of how to avoid copyright infringement
Ability to edit on Adobe Premiere or equivalent
Maintain a professional on-air appearance and presentation
Excellent broadcast writing, communication, and organizational skills
Experience working on digital platforms with ability share content on social media
Strong and proven ability to multi-task and to work under tight deadlines
Must have transportation
Ability to carry ENG equipment
Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus
Knowledge of Catholic Church, teachings, and traditions is a plus
