Job Description

The Nob Hill Gazette's internship program provides talented journalism students and recent graduates with an opportunity to ply their developing craft on behalf of a thriving, 41-year-old San Francisco publishing institution. Our interns play a key role in our small editorial and creative team, helping to maintain smooth editorial processes, assisting the editorial staff with day-to-day operations, reviewing and copyediting stories, collaborating on photo shoots, writing the odd caption, department or feature story and generally getting their feet wet in any and all aspects of the magazine's production.

We look for fearless, high-integrity interns with sharp ideas, quick wits, and great self-starting ability. Our most successful interns are meticulous, accurate reporters and lively storytellers who are eager to add to the voice, tone, and perspective of the Nob Hill Gazette. Moreover, candidates should be ready, willing and eager to take on anything that comes their way, from reporting and writing assignments to equally important (if marginally less glamorous) administrative activities.

Job Requirements

  • Eagerness to work in a highly collaborative environment supporting a wide range of editorial, operational and creative activities.
  • Self-motivated and directed. Be ready to pick up the phone to track down an elusive source, hound a PR person for promised artwork, crank out a quick trend story at a moment's notice, provide bulletproof fact checking on a feature and coordinate a photo shoot between an interview subject and our photographer, all in a given day.
  • Impeccable writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work 15-30 hours per week on site in our San Francisco office.
  • Strong social and digital media acumen
  • Recent journalism/humanities graduate or current graduate student in the field
  • Please submit your resume (including a few links to samples of work you're proud of). This should give us the nuts and bolts. More important, please ditch the canned, formal cover letter and simply tell us what kind of stories you'd like to write that you think might be a good fit for the Nob Hill Gazette and why. What do you hope to get out of this internship and how do you see it advancing your career goals? In the midst of all of the above, give us a sense of who you are beyond your resume and what you want to bring to the table?
