The Washington Post video department is seeking a senior producer to manage the daily operations of our Live Moments team.
The ideal candidate must have five to seven years of experience producing breaking news and extended coverage of Congress, elections, political conventions and debates. The senior producer oversees elements for live coverage, including writing scripts, producing graphics and tape, booking guests and developing segments for remote reporters.
The senior producer manages a staff of on-camera anchors, reporters, and videographer/editors. When not planning live coverage, the senior producer handles daily production of the staff’s video series – including day-to-day staff management, overseeing an editorial calendar, reviewing scripts and rough cuts, and guiding the team on optimal publishing times. The senior producer also collaborates with the social team on publishing and promotional opportunities. The ideal candidate must have a track record of creating audience-first series ideas and managing all aspects of production from storyboarding to post-production to social promotion. A strong familiarity with streaming and social platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and others, and a working knowledge of digital analytics tools, is also required.
Exceptional news judgment and a history of producing high-impact live journalism and series are necessary for this role, as are strong writing and editing skills and the ability to help video journalists craft their stories. Candidates should have a firm knowledge of the operation and capabilities of live newsgathering equipment.
This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
Candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and links to work that matches this role’s job responsibilities to our jobs portal by Oct. 6. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Director of Video Micah Gelman, Executive Producer Lauren Saks, and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
