At Today, Explained, we make a documentary every day and now we’re looking for a co-host to join the team and share hosting duties with founding host Sean Rameswaram. You won’t just be sitting down and reading questions; you’ll be the co-pilot of a news show that takes chances, breaks ground, and helps people deepen their understanding of the news. You’ll host shows several days a week or even for weeks at a time based on the needs and ambitions of Today, Explained.
Vox is a user’s guide to the news produced by the reporters and subject issue experts who know it best and Today, Explained – our flagship podcast – is an audio expression of that mission: a daily news explainer that is both relentlessly reported and ground-breaking in its sonics and storytelling.
Ideally, the co-host will also be an adept producer who can work closely with the team to conceptualize episodes, propose story and guest ideas, review interview preps, conduct interviews and edit drafts. You’ll also take on guiding the show editorially, conceptualizing series, live events and reported features. Every episode of the show is a creative, narrative-driven story that explains what’s happening in our world. The co-host will guide the team in making the best episodes about the most important stories, from pitch to publish.
We’re looking for a voracious consumer of news, a passionate storyteller with a sense of showmanship. This isn’t a stodgy news show, and we’re not looking to put anyone to sleep. Our co-host will keep things compelling at all times because Today, Explained makes you care about the news.
The right candidate for this position knows what makes a good story, and knows how to tell it. You know the playbook, but are ready to tear it up if that’s what an episode demands. You’re delighted by the idea of innovating on foundational news formats like the standard two-way, and have a demonstrated knack for taking unexpected approaches to curiosity-driven stories.
This role will report to the Editorial Director, News Audio at Vox. We have audio studios in New York and DC and most of the team is based in DC, but we will consider remote applicants for this position.
