Job Description

Job Summary

The Communications Manager will help lead the Voices team in expanding the organization’s reach and influence in Georgia. The candidate will report to the Director of Operations and Finance and work closely with the Sr. Communications Manager, Advocacy Director, Executive Director, and other team members.  The successful candidate will be responsible for using a variety of communication channels to promote the organization’s priorities and support the creation and implementation of a strategic communications plan. Candidate will be a strong writer, capable of conveying the impact of Voices’ work in compelling narratives for all audiences, and consistent with the Voices brand.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop written content for print, email, social media, and web to help stakeholders understand complex issues and promote Voices’ work and impact.
  2. Draft compelling narratives on the importance and relevance of Voices’ work.
  3. Develop media relations across the state and facilitate coverage of Voices work and products.
  4. Create and manage multi-faceted communications strategy and schedule.
  5. Use data analytics to determine best strategies.
  6. Create and execute creative marketing and dissemination plans for new report releases and refreshers.
  7. Create proposals for corporate sponsorship for events and other marketing/fundraising materials.
  8. Collaborate with team and facilitate the creation of externally facing publications, including policy briefs, fact sheets, and the Whole Child Primer.
  9. Ensure quality control of all publications and communications.
  10. Assist with proofing and editing of materials and documents as needed.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Starting Salary Range: $60,000 - $72,000

Full Salary Range: $60,000 - $90,000

Job Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or similar field is required.  Master’s degree is preferred.  High quality, relevant experience may substitute for some of the educational requirement.


  • A minimum of three years reporting/newsroom, public relations or similar experience preferred.
  • Communications portfolio (digital and print) required.
  • Ability to understand the target audience for each message and effectively communicate to that audience while maintaining the Voices’ style, tone, and brand.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and email marketing applications.
  • Strong command of AP grammar, style, copy-editing, and copywriting skills and the ability to produce content that is clean, accurate and "publication ready."
  • Proven expertise using social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to enhance reporting and promote stories.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising people and projects.
  • Ability to lead multiple tasks at once, work independently, and as a team to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to exercise cultural and political sensitivity.

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Basic knowledge of roles played by local, state, and federal government.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Flexibility, high energy, and a strong team player. Willingness to change tasks on short notice and pitch in on team products when needed.
  • Experience and advanced skills with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and WordPress is a plus.
  • Proficiency working with data and able to generate polished graphics from spreadsheets is a plus.


This position is home-based, but applicant must be able to attend periodic meetings in the metro Atlanta area.  Applicant must be a resident of the state of Georgia.
