Confidential is a well-funded news startup preparing to launch a digital publication this fall. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an ambitious project. Our goal is to reach an influential audience hungry for a new way to understand complex stories. We want to show readers how a story crosses beats and how it’s best understood through multiple frames, including geopolitics, misinformation, economics, technology, science and more. We will prioritize data and research in our work.
We are hiring journalists with strong reporting, writing and analytical skills who would be excited by the challenge of taking a new approach to their beat and continually testing new formats. We want to lay out the who, what, when, etc., and explain the multiple frames through which to understand the bigger picture. We want reporters with subject-area expertise who see the forces animating their beats and how their beats intersect with others. We will consider applicants with other professional backgrounds who can show us they have the area-specific expertise and writing skills to do the work.
Confidential is hiring a Technology Reporter to cover the mega trends ahead in technological innovation and disruption. We are particularly interested in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, privacy and big data. We believe technology is central to every other major story we will cover – from the economy to global climate change to geopolitics to inequality. An ideal candidate is up on the latest news out of Silicon Valley. More importantly, they bring a creative eye to the beat. They start from a point of curiosity about the future of technology – it's promise and perils. They see where the biggest stories on their beat intersect with their colleagues’ beats across the newsroom. They’re eager to experiment with new ways of collaborating and testing new formats. They see the technology beat as exciting and dynamic.
