Confidential is a well-funded news startup preparing to launch a digital publication this fall. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an ambitious project. Our goal is to reach an influential audience hungry for a new way to understand complex stories. We want to show readers how a story crosses beats and how it’s best understood through multiple frames, including geopolitics, economics, technology, science and more. We will prioritize data and research in our work.
We are hiring journalists with strong reporting, writing and analytical skills who would be excited by the challenge of taking a new approach to their beat and continually testing new formats. We want to lay out the who, what, when, etc., and explain the multiple frames through which to understand the bigger picture. We want reporters with subject-area expertise who see the forces animating their beats and how their beats intersect with others. We will consider applicants with other professional backgrounds who can show us they have the area-specific expertise and writing skills to do the work.
Confidential is hiring a Public Health Reporter to cover domestic and global trends in public health. We are looking for a creative reporter to shape a unique approach to the beat, looking through multiple lenses, like equality, emerging technology and future risks. Public health is central to every other major story we will cover – from equality to global climate change to geopolitics. An ideal candidate is up on the latest research and data in the public health community and they’ve worked with visual journalists to translate this data in compelling ways. Most importantly, they see how their beat intersects with others and they’re eager to collaborate with colleagues.
