Job Description Summary
The Los Angeles Times is looking for an ambitious and experienced senior producer to work on interview, chat-style and narrative podcasts. The senior producer will work with our existing podcast team – the executive producer, other producers, reporters, editors and audio engineers – to develop and produce weekly and limited-run shows.
Responsibilities:
Work with the executive producer to help manage the L.A. Times podcast slate
Work with L.A. Times reporters and independent contributors to turn ideas into audio stories
Conduct pre-interviews, book guests, prep hosts and write show scripts when necessary
Record host and guest interviews remotely and, if necessary, gather field sound
Edit interviews and host tracks in ProTools
Deliver mixed show episodes to audio engineer for mastering
Work with audio engineer and/or composer to sound design and score shows
Write online and promotional content
Fact-check scripts and interviews
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
At least five years of audio journalism experience
At least two years of experience producing podcasts
Experience in recording audio in studio, remotely and in the field, and in editing audio in ProTools
Experience working with outside podcast production partners a plus
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a strong desire to report the news accurately
Passionate about original audio storytelling and open to experimentation within the interview and narrative show format
Excited about show development, and the process of devising new projects that will connect with audiences
Comfortable giving and taking feedback as necessary
Excited about working on a small but scrappy team that includes L.A. Times reporters, editors, other producers and audio engineers
The strongest candidates will also have a deep familiarity with everything California and the ability to speak multiple languages.
