Communications and Development Associate


The Marshall Project seeks a Communications and Development Associate to support the publicity and marketing activities of a fast-growing, nonprofit media organization.

The associate will report to the Communications Director on projects that will help to sustain and promote our criminal justice reportage. Candidates should have strong writing and verbal skills, two to three years experience working at a nonprofit organization and an interest in criminal justice issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pitching Marshall Project reporters to national and local broadcast media; tracking media impact.

  • Helping to coordinate partnerships with other media organizations.

  • Building and managing lists of press and advocacy organizations.

  • Drafting marketing materials including a biweekly newsletter, thrice-annual impact reports and other materials as needed.

  • Assisting with audience development and online growth strategies.

  • Working with the development team to draft reports and proposals to foundations and major donors.

  • Helping to plan and execute public events.

  • Tracking deadlines and preparing submissions for journalism awards.

  • Assisting with social media communications, as required.

  • Performing general administrative duties, as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Two to three years experience at a media organization in either publicity or marketing.

  • Ability to write for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)

  • Experience with database and email-events management programs
